As we begin our discussion about room design, we should probably determine the difference between designing a space and decorating one. I will be talking about interior design, not differing dcor tastes. Interior design really refers more to the functionality and physicality of the room. Decorating is what is done after the major design is laid out. In addition, it is based more on individual preferences. I would like to present you with a list of what I consider to be the most important and basic components of designing a room.

1. Probably the most important piece of our design puzzle is that the room must be proportionate to those who will use it. This is not nearly as complicated as it sounds. It just means that all the parts should match in size relative to each other. Say you are designing a room for a toddler. A king size bed in his room that measures 10 by 12 would be the definition of disproportionate. That bed does not fit in that room or with that person. It is not a matter of taste it is just true.

2. Always remember to let that sun shine in! Nothing compares to natural lighting. It makes any room come to life. When making sure that your room lets in enough sunlight, keep in mind this is one time that there is no such thing as too much!

3. Lets stop here for a little breather. Take a deep breath. Now let it out slowly. Okay, now that was not just a recess. It is our next big piece. We need air. Design your room with that in mind. Give ample space for airflow. It makes the room cooler and more crisp and fresh. If you obeyed guideline two, then your ample light-providing windows can also get that air moving. If you were unable or unwilling to have many windows installed, then do not forget that there are other options for creating airflow. Fans placed strategically can increase the flow. In addition, there are some great rooftop ventilation systems available.

4. Everyone needs their space. Design must reflect that need. You should be able to move about freely in your room. We have many doors in bedrooms. Just the entrance and a closet are basic. If you have a suite with a bathroom attached or have an outside door, it becomes more challenging to design a room that allows free movement. Just remember that a challenge does not mean it is impossible. Working within limits, can still provide enough space with some smart planning.

5. Although I did mention earlier that interior design was different than decorating, there are some points where the two can intersect. You need to remember that there are certain things that should be included or at least left room for in your design plan. This is definitely one place where you can express a bit more creativity. Simple things like light fixtures and window dressings can be included. They can add to the design and the dcor at the same time.

I hope that this list gets you excited at the prospect of designing a bedroom. This is only a short overview of some of the important basics of interior design. There are many resources out there if you would like to delve further into this topic. If nothing else, I know that the next time you are visiting someones house, you will be looking to see if they read this article, too. If not, you may want to show them.

Picture your home, having every room decorated exactly the way you had pictured it and the way you wanted each room to look. You are content and happy in your home and with your choices of dcor, a month goes by, six months goes by and then all of a sudden you start to feel like each room or maybe just one or two rooms still feel like they are missing something.

Almost every person I know goes through this feeling at some point and the good news here is that you do not have to spend tons of money to rectify that missing piece and you can actually do this without having to completely redo an entire room or house.

I had a friend once who was on the verge of going into the hospital for surgery, but prior to that she decided she wanted to completely redecorate her living room, something she had just completed a year prior. She received a lot of compliments on her choices of colors and style for that living room and for the life of me, I could not figure out why she was already going to change it. I joked and told her that she should just study to be a home decorator and decorate other peoples homes so she did not feel the need to redecorate hers every year. That can be a costly hobby when you get right down to it.

She had already prepped her furniture with plastic and bought some new paint when she found out she had to have surgery and would not be able to complete her redecorating project prior to being hospitalized. This was when I decided I was going to show her what subtle little additions to a room or sudden changes to a room could do for the room and the huge impact it would have on saving money.

While she was in the hospital, I removed the plastic from her furniture, returned the paint she had bought and I started brainstorming. It did not take me long to figure out what to add to this room or change about this room that would make a world of difference to her so I set those plans in motion.

From that experience, I bring this article to give you some tips and tricks on little additions to any room that can perk it up as well as getting the shell of the room completed with finishing touches.

First, plants and flowers are the best addition to any room. The only thing you have to be careful for here is lighting and making sure that these plants or flowers will be cared for because nothing looks more hideous than to walk into a room and see wilted or dead flowers in a vase or a dead plant lying on the floor. If you want, go artificial on this idea because it will take the worry out of caring so much. Artificial plants and flowers only require an occasional dusting.

Second, take some of the nick-knacks or collections in a room and put them on shelves on the wall, not only will this change the atmosphere of the room all together, it will take away the cluttered feeling that sometimes a room can get when it is overwhelmed with collectibles and nick-knacks. Adding a picture collage to a room can make a huge difference too, so break out the photo albums and get creative.

Take a good hard look at the floor and picture a perfect area rug or accent rug somewhere in the room. Area rugs sometimes are the only thing that needs to be added to the room to give it that one last finishing touch. Area rugs are also great for protecting the flooring from high traffic or heavy furniture.

To finish my previous story, all I did was add a hanging plant and a floor plant opposite of the hanging plant in the living room, and I bought an inexpensive area rug for the room and placed it under her coffee table. When she returned home from her hospital stay, she was completely beside herself because she could not believe what those small things did for that room and she was elated. We took the money she spent on the paint that I returned and went out and had a great dinner that night. Needless to say, I was able to prove my point without being offensive and she was very grateful of my efforts to help her out.

Sometimes, the smallest changes in life are the more profound and impressive changes.

Over the years I have become keenly aware at how a persons individual style for fashion does not always spill over into the way they decorate their homes. I have met several people in my lifetime that I like to refer to as Fashionistas who have a great style for fashion and are always up “to-date on the latest trends and they usually have to have an excellent job or career to go along with those fashionable tastes. With that said, those same people have invited me over for a dinner or just to visit and I walk into their homes and I am completely shocked at the lack of attention they give their dcor or the out-dated way they have decided to decorate.

I am the last person who will judge a person based by what they wear or what their home looks like, so I do not want you to misunderstand what I am saying when I make that previous statement. It just comes as a shock when you see someone who is so into fashion neglect the fashion of their own home. There are also others who think they have a flair for home dcor but really do not have the first clue as to some of the dos and do nots of home dcor.

This article will focus on some of the fashion rules that you should follow when choosing the style your home is going to present to the people who live there and to your guests. I would have to say that first rule of home fashion is to make sure that you purchase at least one piece of furniture that is going to stand the test of time, such as your dining room table, an oriental rug or area rug or something antique like and armoire. Area rugs specifically will add just the right touch to any room without overwhelming the room with a cluttered feel and an area rug is also a great accent for any room that has a high traffic area to be able to protect the flooring underneath.

Instead of keeping every room in a neutral color, you need to spice things up a bit and add some brilliant colors to certain rooms of the home such as a bedroom or breakfast nook. This will take away the constant need to redecorate or add too much clutter to a room to spice it up when you get bored with it. Taking the time to initially add bright color to a room will keep you satisfied for a very long time.

Using the right type of lighting in each room is going to make a major difference in the feel of your home. If you have a large living area, for example, using two floor lamps or two end table lamps to light the entire room is not going to give the proper light, nor will it do the room justice. Instead you should opt for track lighting in large rooms or even recessed lighting.

When you are ready to get caught up on fashion for your home and are ready to start to decorate or re-decorate, do some online research or pick up a home dcor magazine and you will be sure to find some great ideas and even some ideas that with a little bit of your own imagination, you can expand on.

You may have recently planned to remodel your basement. There are so many possibilities you wouldn’t know where to begin. Supposing you left one space that you want to use for hanging out with friends. It’s not necessarily anything fancy like a bar or a living room type. It’s just a huge area that is practically empty so you can have more to do in it. Perhaps there’s a raised platform in that corner of your basement that you hope to open new basement decorating ideas with.

Accessories and Items – Think of things that you could put there. Just think and open yourself to options. You can have themes for this little basement decorating project. For example, if you’re a baseball fan, bring all your memorabilia from the attic to this corner of your home. If you’re into music, perhaps your concert tickets and CD collections will look good. Sort out all the stuff you thought of throwing away. There may be a chance that you change your mind and use them as basement decors.

Adding a few accessories to go with your theme and a little creative thinking should be fun. Here are some of them:

1. Wall Decor – Wallpapers are good materials for your basement decorating ideas. They are available in stores. The thing is that you have to use adhesives to put them up there on the wall. If you don’t like gluing something on wall, try graffiti. Use latex paint. Picture frames would be nice too. But make sure you don’t damage your walls. That way if you decide to change the theme, you can do it easily by just taking them off.

2. Accessorizing the Floor – You might want to go and buy some stuff you could use at the flea market. Pillows and a neatly weaved carpet can be a great mood setter. Not only that, it gives accent to your basement. It’s like jewelry. With the right combination, it makes your basement attractive to look at. But be careful. Too much accessories could spoil it.

3. Lighting Fixtures – Not only are they functional but they create a classy look for your basement decorating ideas. Use lighting that are just enough to set the right mood. Let the lighting in this corner be perfect to spend time with friends and enjoy good conversations.

4. Decorative Items – Decorative items as figurines add accent to your basement. Set up a wood frame cabinet that is open both ways. Put all your little collections of miniature models and put them under a good lighting.

5. Sofas and Furniture – Furniture such as sofas, chairs and tables completes your basement decorating project. There are good bargains you could find. But make sure you got your ideas clear as to what type of furniture you want to put in here. Get the colors right. It should blend with the rest of the decorations. You don’t want to have contrasting colors for your furnishings.

Different Look – An important thing to also consider in basement decorating is the option to alter the look of your room at any time. This is a challenging task but when get it all right, you will enjoy it to the fullest. Make sure that when decorating your basement, replacing your accessories should be easy and cheap. The fun part is being able to experiment. There are no bounds. There are no limits. There can be no restrictions. All there is you need is creativity.

You would not want to have your basement half done because of a lack of sources, so read on through this article to find out some ideas for basement remodeling on a budget. Renovating or remodeling your home can be quite an expensive pastime, even if you are only planning to do some repainting. However, if you decide to remodel an entire living space or even utilize an empty room to produce something from square one your project can seriously burn a hole in your pocket. One important thing you should do in this case is to stick to a tight budget and assign a set amount for every step of the project.

Even with a limited budget, there are still so many ideas for basement remodeling. For one, you should start with the important stuff before going on to, for instance, deciding on the type of decorative lighting you wish to incorporate into your basement. Waterproof your basement first and foremost, as dampness and other water problems is really a main issue in most basements.

Clean out and get rid of the junk and moldy items inside your basement once your basement has been waterproofed. Jot down and draw out every idea you have on paper. If you have a clearer picture of what you want to do with your basement, the less likely you are going to spend on useless materials and equipment.

Lighting is another area where you can improve your basement without having to spend for so much. When working on basement lighting, make sure you also utilize natural lighting. This means using the sunlight or other sources of lighting from the outside of your home to brighten up your dark basement. You do not have to spend on natural lighting, so you would want to take advantage as much of it as possible by using larger windows or glass blocks, French doors and mirrors to reflect more light.

To save on energy used with artificial lighting, avoid using incandescent lighting. Although it radiates a warm, soft light it is not very efficient. Fluorescent tubing is much more economical, however, it does not produce a glow that is as attractive. Thus, the key here is to combine lighting while keeping in mind how they are going to be used. Are you mainly going to read in the basement? Do you really need bright lighting if youre going to use the basement mainly for entertainment purposes?

For the ceiling, you can install a suspended one. With a suspended ceiling, you have better access to wiring and other parts of the area where you can easily install things like lighting fixtures and detectors. Suspended ceilings can also hide stains and cracks. In the long term, suspended ceilings are more economical, since they are more practical and allow you to easily make adjustments without the added costs.

You can also save on flooring by installing new floors on you own There are now products that are made of more affordable materials that can even imitate other materials that are otherwise more expensive, such as hardwood and granite. There are also products that are especially designed for do-it-yourself-ers where tiles have an adhesive side so they can be instantly installed.

You may want to go for secondhand furniture to save even more. This way you wont also have to worry about getting them damaged or replacing them if ever sudden flooding occurs. As you can see there are several ideas for basement remodeling on a budget. You do not have to spend a fortune to achieve the finished basement of your dreams.

If you have ever read a fitness magazine chances are you have read that it is better to eat 6 meals a day then 3. The experts behind this idea are really on to something and I highly suggest eating more meals… that’s right more meals, over the traditional 3 meals.

If you are beginning to incorporate this idea into your lifestyle then it may be helpful to understand why it is a great idea for all women. Since birth most women are groomed to eat three meals a day but this is your time to break away.

Eating 6 meals a day will truly help to boost your efforts to get the body you want. It may be a challenge at first but it will become second nature quickly after feeling the results! And you will say good-bye to hunger pains and that obnoxious 11:30 pre-lunch stomach growling.

Here are the specific benefits of eating 4 to 6 meals a day for women:

1. A Boost to Metabolism: Think of it this way. When you are constantly feeding your body 6 smaller meals throughout the day, it is having to constantly work to break that down. Because of this your metabolism is always high and ready to burn calories. This allows for proper breakdown of food and zero energy storage as fat.

2. Energy Volcano: Because your metabolism is staying active and high all day long, you are keeping the energy levels in your body naturally high as well. And that means you will feel more energetic… as you won’t have to worry about crashing throughout your day either.

3. BALANCE AND STABILITY: Sugar and insulin. Everyone has experienced dizziness light headedness, and fatigue when you have not eaten in a while, but why? That feeling comes when your body does not have enough sugar. Insulin is a hormone to keep sugar in balance, so when one if off so is the other. Eating every 2-3 hours helps to stabilize the hormone and the blood sugar that is REQUIRED by the body.

4. Fat Loss Without Starving Yourself: By eating six meals a day you will have a new look at eating and never stave yourself again. Not to mention that you will always feel full and that will help you from over eating which leads to extended periods of not eating.

5. NUTRITIONAL EXPERT: By planning out your meals you are learning to be more conscious of what is being eaten. If you do no plan ahead then eating the extra snacks and meals becomes almost impossible. Snack machines and fast food are no longer options!

6. Lean Muscle Building: As you eat 6 times a day, you continue to feed your muscles which you’re working out. As you do this, they continue to build new muscle fibers and that increases your metabolism even more. It’s a natural compounding affect.

I hope you can see how important it is to eat 6 meals a day now. You can easily make this change and create a body that burn fat like an oven and build lean sexy muscle. Team this nutrition system with a great workout and you will have a new body in no time.

Everyone quickly understands the basics of sports gambling, because its as simple as the sports themselves. Horse racing, on the other hand, is a more difficult form of gambling to approach successfully. While there are some similarities between sports gambling and horse handicapping, success in one by no means assures even competency in the other. CBS Sports icon Jimmy ‘The Greek’ Snyder was by all accounts a first rate sports handicapper, but downright awful at forecasting horse races.

The information below is the bare bones basics of what you need to know to enjoy a day at the horse track. If you’re interested in becoming a serious horse handicapper, you’re best advice to start with one of the countless books or DVDs that deal specifically with the discipline.

Reading in Fundamental: The first thing you should do when you arrive at the horse track is to purchase a track program and a copy of the Daily Racing Form. The Daily Racing Form (or DRF for short) is the Wall Street Journal of the horse handicapping set. The track program will offer much of the same information about the specific track, but is frequently in a more user friendly format than the often arcane DRF. The basic stats you’ll find in these publications are the names of the horses, jockeys and trainers, the morning line odds, and the types of bets available for each race. You’ll also have past performance charts, which are the bread and butter of serious horse handicappers. These charts reveal a lot about a horse and what theyve done on the racetrack, including its record, where it ran, the quality of competition it ran against, and what position the horse was in at various points in the race. Most tracks have customer service types that are helpful in clearing up anything you dont understand. While asking the personnel in a sports book who they like isn’t a wise idea, its OK at the track for a reason well now discuss”you’re not playing against them.

The House Doesn’t Care Who Wins: One thing that is important for the sports bettor to remember when playing the horses is that its a parimutuel situation. In other words, you’re not playing against the house, you’re playing against the other bettors. The track just facilitates the betting and acts as a middleman, handling the money for a fee (15 to 25 percent of the parimutuel pool). Another difference is that the track odds are determined by how much money is bet on each horse. If everyone bets on one horse”whether it is the best horse, or just has the catchiest name”it will go off as the favorite. Long odds on a horse doesn’t necessarily indicate a bad horse, but just one that the wagering public isn’t investing in. Sometimes this can be one and the same, but not always.

So where do odds in the newspaper or program originate? These are known as the ‘morning odds’ or ‘morning line’ and is basically an educated guess as to where the betting will go. They can be helpful as a handicapping tool, but may or may not reflect what will happen in the actual betting.

The Basics of Handicapping: Even expert handicappers approach the sport differently and, like his sports gambling counterpart, may place greater emphasis on the importance of certain data than other handicappers. Some handicappers place a great deal of weight on a horses past performances, including the quality of opposition hes run against. Others place greater value on recent workouts, and still others go to the paddock to eyeball the horses and try to determine which ones are ready to run.

Once the handicapper starts to work out what he thinks will transpire in a race, he has to weigh that against the prices available on each horse. A likely winner might not be a good bet if his price is too high. Conversely, a long shot could be an overlay if his odds–and potential payback–is high enough. It’s all a matter of doing the math–its importance in gambling alone justifies a greater emphasis on the subject in American high schools.

Trainers and breeding: Some handicappers prioritize a horse’s breeding background–considering his bloodlines and the competitive quality of his parents and grandparents. Then training must be considered–a good trainer can often get a horse to ‘over perform’ much in the same way a good coach can get the most out of his team in sports.

Jockeys: Jockeys are independent agents, and thus to make the most money they need to win the most races. The more a jockey wins, the better ‘rides’ he gets and the more money he makes. Surprisingly, many serious horse players put minimal importance on the jockey. It’s essentially a case where even the best jockey can’t win with a bad horse. In other words, if a jockey is seen as ‘competent’ there are many other more significant factors for the handicapper to consider.

Don’t Go Overboard, and Try to Find What Works For You: As with any new betting discipline, its always sound advice to not go overboard with the amount of money you wager. These are just the basics of how to bet a horse race and what some of the salient factors are in determining who will win or lose a race, and doesn’t even to begin to scratch the surface of successfully handicapping the sport. If you want to learn more, Id suggest starting with the Daily Racing Form website, after which a simple Google search can expand your options from there.
